Which product is right for me?

In our sub-tropical Brisbane climate, ducted air conditioning is increasingly considered as an essential component to maintain a comfortable living environment. The basic principle of ducted air conditioning is to circulate cooled air in a room(s), through the absorption of heat in one internal place and then subsequent heat release in an external place.

The standard split system air conditioning process requires an indoor air handling unit and an outdoor compressor unit, which are connected via copper piping through which flows refrigerant. It is the refrigerant that allows the heat to be moved from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit for release.

It is fair to say that air conditioning technology has moved a long way in a short period of time. Therefore, choosing the right type and size of air conditioning system for your home is a very important decision, as it directly impacts the comfort level for the whole family, plus can also add much re-sale value to your property.

Here is a brief overview of the main air conditioning systems available today, that Brisbane Air conditioning experts can supply and install in your home:

• Ducted Systems:

  Ducted air conditioning systems are the 'top of the range' solution and allow for the distribution of cool and warm air all around the house at the touch of a button. These ducted air conditioning systems contain a number of components, being the air handling unit, the outdoor compressor and vents in each room.

  One additional option is to also include a zone control system, which allows you to control the air flow to each room or ducted point, with a typical use being to operate in the living areas during the day and the bedrooms at night. With ducted air conditioning systems, there is also more flexibility in the positioning of the outdoor unit.

  

• Wall Mounted Split Systems:

  This air conditioner system comprise 2 parts, the indoor air handling unit and the outdoor compressor unit.

  Nowadays, most split systems are also reverse cycle, which means they can both cool and heat rooms. In fact, the heating mode of these air conditioner units is generally regarded as one of the most cost efficient forms of heating available.

  Split systems are perfect for single room and cost efficient solutions, where the outdoor unit can be positioned nearby.

  Based on factors such as the size and position of the room, windows and insulation, Brisbane Air staff can recommend the most effective size of air conditioner unit for your residential needs.

  

• Multi Head Split Systems:

  This is a reasonably new air conditioning technology, where you can have a number of individually controlled indoor units all running off one outdoor compressor unit. However, due to the additional engineering required for the outdoor compressor unit, plus the fact that each room/ area still requires an individual indoor unit, multi heads are not usually the most cost effective air conditioning option.

  These systems provide the best solution when there is limited space for outdoor units (e.g. in a townhouse or a unit) or where there is insufficient roof space for a ducted system.

• Cassette Systems:

  Air conditioner cassette systems are generally used when there is not enough roof space for a ducted system.

  In the past, they were mainly suited to commercial applications, however new technical designs have created a unit with a much thinner profile and therefore they are now also being installed in residential situations.

  

Which Brand of Air Conditioner?

Brisbane Air can supply and install any brand of air conditioning unit, however we do tend to recommend certain suppliers as our experience suggests that some air conditioner suppliers produce much more reliable products than others.

Our preferred and most recommended air conditioner brand is Mitsubishi Electric, however we also install Panasonic, Daikin, Midea and other brands.

We generally guarantee labour and material on the installation of our residential air conditioning units for 5 years (some conditions apply).

Servicing and Maintenance of Air Conditioners

Good air conditioner maintenance procedures start after installation and you should always ensure that your air conditioner filter is clean and clear of any contaminates. Whilst air filters can generally be cleaned by the homeowner, there are certain other items that need to be occasionally checked to ensure that your air conditioning system is running smoothly, for example refrigerant levels, cooling coils, condensing unit and drip trays. In our experience, both new and old systems require some routine maintenance and therefore we recommend regular preventative check ups in order to save you possible headaches and bigger costs in the long run. Whilst the interval between servicing is largely dependent upon how long the system runs each day and how many people it serves, we recommend professional servicing for residential customers at least once every 18 months.

For just $125.00 (inc. GST), Brisbane Air will visit your home and service your wall hung split system air conditioning unit.

For just $175.00 (inc. GST), Brisbane Air will visit your home and service your ducted air conditioning system.

If you have additional wall hung split system air conditioner units, we will service them whilst on site for an additional $65.00 per unit (inc. GST).

This air conditioner service covers the following items:

• cleaning of all return air filters
• checking of air conditioner refrigeration systems
• checking of refrigerant charges/ levels
• testing and observation of air conditioner units for noise and vibration
• checking and adjustment as necessary of thermostats/ controls
• check and deodorise evaporator coil on indoor unit
• checking all electrical/ electronic equipment routine operations, contactors and switches cut in/ cut out, check amperage currents of compressors and motors and lubricate bearings (where accessible)
• clearing any blocked condensation drains
